After the closure of the Hessle Academy’s Boothferry Road site in December, staff from both Penshurst Primary and Hessle High School have been fundraising to send a 40ft container full of the surplus school furniture and supplies to their partner school, Dryden Street Primary School, in Cape Town.

Although the items are surplus to the requirements of the schools here, they will make a huge difference to the staff and pupils at Dryden Street where resources are in short supply.

Money has been raised through bake sales, sweet stalls and Penshurst Primary’s recent summer fair.

The container is due to leave London Gateway on the 16th July and is expected to arrive in Cape Town on 10th August, where it will be eagerly awaited by Woolworths Financial Services who are funding the transport of the goods from the port to Dryden Street Primary. Woolworths do a lot of work with the School and have supported them for the past 3 years.

The Academy would like to say a big thank you to Barclays Bank for matching some of the school’s fundraising, Fastlane Forwarding UK for the hire of the container and of course to the parents and local residents who gave up their time and helped to load the 40ft container on Wednesday night.
