Dear Parents and carers,
Following on from a very successful main school Open evening, we held our Sixth Form evening on Tuesday, and it was a great success. We were particularly pleased that a lot more Hessle students attended than last year which, whilst it is early days, is a positive indication for September 2027. We continue to advertise and recruit externally, and we have an increase in this year in students from schools outside the Trust who, I am pleased to say, have settled in very quickly. It was a great evening so my thanks to those of you who attended.
Continuing the theme of Sixth Form, I have been really pleased with the work ethic of all our students, and in particular year 12. I like to go up to Tranby House and chat with those who are working in the café area or the different study areas. I spoke to a group of four students in year 12 on Wednesday who talked me through the initial thoughts they had for their EPQ. It was fascinating. They have such a strong work ethic and, what also pleased me was they took me up on my invite to call into my office later in the day where we talked a bit more about their studies.
Recently we have seen quite a dip in attendance which concerns me, especially on Tuesdays and Fridays. Everyone feels a little unwell at times, but they can still come into school. I emphasise again – and thank you to the majority of parents and carers who send their child to school regularly – that if your child is absent, it will make the next day more difficult and create unnecessary stress. It will also impact greatly on their future life chances.
On Monday we are launching the Year 11 Prom Passport where students have to achieve 95% attendance to go to the event along with other criteria such as behaviour. Later this term I will be announcing how the Prom Passport will start in Year 10 with exactly the same attendance criteria.
Have a great weekend.
