Penshurst Primary School

WEEK 38 - Friday 15 July 2022

A quick reminder of details regarding the Summer end of term picnic:

As you are aware, on our last day of school (Friday 22 July) we finish at 2pm. The school picnic is 12noon until 1.30pm. Please collect your child for the picnic from the normal end of day collection point so staff can sign the children out and you can then take them to the field. Both gates will be open from 12noon to allow entry onto the school site but the Penshurst Avenue gate will be closed at 12.15pm to safeguard all the pupils and exit will be via the Winthorpe Road gate only.

We ask that if you are taking your child home after the picnic, then you let the teacher know when you collect them. For those of you who would still like a school lunch, we will provide these in boxes so the pupils can eat outside with their classmates. Please could you indicate whether you will be sending a pack up/picnic or require a school meal; this will allow us to prepare the kitchen for numbers on the final day.

We are really looking forward to all of the fun activities that take place over the next week and it looks like we will have great weather as well. It is always a mix of emotions at this time of year as we lose our Year 6 pupils to the land of secondary but we wish them well and know they are ready for the next stage of their education. Reports flooding back are that they have had a great time at Hessle High School. Transition week across the primary phase has been successful although due to staff sickness we have had a couple of classes who have not had their new teacher - we hope to allow some time in the final week for this to happen.

This year is doubly emotional for me as I leave my Penshurst family after 12 years. I can honestly say that Penshurst is the finest school I have ever worked in and I will miss the children, staff and parents greatly. I leave knowing that the school is in safe hands, with Mrs Preston taking the helm, which makes it slightly easier but no less emotional. I would like to thank all of you who have supported me in making Penshurst the fabulous school that it is and I am sure I will still chat to many of you when I see you around and about Hessle. So with all that said, this will be my last blog as I hand over to Mrs Preston to write the final blog of the year with any information you may need for September and the new term.

Thank you again for everything and I hope to say goodbye in person to many of you at the school picnic.

Mrs J Spencer

Head of School
