Restorative Practice

Looking after and supporting the development of the 'whole child' Pastoral Care at Penshurst Primary school has been designed to provide a holistic approach to addressing the personal, social, emotional, intellectual and spiritual (whether these come from a faith or non faith perspective) needs of every child.

Children are encouraged to make the most of their time at school and every effort is made to remove obstacles to successful learning and to equip young people with the confidence and skills to be effective learners and effective members of the community.

All members of the school community have a role to play in assisting young people to be safe, nurtured, healthy, achieving, active, respected, responsible and included.

Restorative Practice (RP) forms the backbone of practices throughout the school and community. We encourage the children to explore their emotional well-being throughout the day and relay their feelings through an ‘Emotional Barometer’. Check-in and check-out circles are deployed in every classroom to allow children to reflect upon their well-being and allow an opening to express their feelings further.

When conflict arises, it is important to deal with it in a fair and clear process. Throughout the Hessle Academy, ‘Conflict Circles’ are used to bring together those who have harmed and those that have been harmed. These circles are concluded when actions have been found that bring mutual benefit that nurtures the inherent integrity of all those involved in the conflict.

Penshurst Primary School is committed to the wellbeing of every child. An Emotional Wellbeing Coordinator (EWC) monitors and assists social well-being throughout the school. If you have any problems regarding your child and their well-being please do not hesitate to contact the school.
