Attendance

Hessle Academy puts a high importance on attendance and punctuality, we expect students to aim for 100% attendance. However, there may be times when your child has to miss school because they are too ill to attend. Therefore, we realistically expect a minimum attendance of 96%.

Parents are responsible for making sure children regularly attend school. If you fail to do so you are committing an offence and the Local Authority (LA) may take legal action against you. This still applies even if your child is missing school without your knowledge.

We are responsible by law for reporting poor attendance to the Education Welfare Service (EWS). The school will contact you and work with you if your child is regularly absent from school.

Please try to avoid arranging doctors, dentists and similar appointments during school hours. Where this is not possible, let us know as soon as you can and provide supporting evidence of appointments.

Penshurst Primary starts at 8.50am, doors open at 8.40 am, any student arriving after 8.50am needs to report to the School Office.

Hessle High begins at 8.35am which means that students need to be through the second set of the school gates and in their tutor line-up no later than 8.30am. If students arrive late, this will be recorded and will be followed up by a detention for lateness.

If a student arrives after the register closes (9.00am Secondary Phase and 9.10am Primary Phase), this will be recorded as an unauthorised absence.

For more information regarding a Leave of Absence request for a student/pupil during term time please read the Access to Education Policy and Procedures here.
