Life Beyond Sixth Form

Sixth Form opens a wide variety of doors to our students. Most go on to study at university, others go into employment or apprenticeships and some take time out to travel. Whichever option they choose, students are supported and encouraged to reach for their goals to the very best of their abilities.

Our students have gone on to study a huge range of subjects from Architecture to Mathematics to Zoology and everything in between. They have chosen to study at universities across the whole country, including Oxford and Cambridge. We always take great pleasure in hearing about their successes in Higher Education and their future employment.

Those who have chosen not to continue with their studies have gone into an assortment of jobs ranging from nursery workers to veterinary assistants. Others have found success in the armed forces.

Higher Education

Every year, a high percentage of our students progress onto university; our aim is to ensure that those students who choose to go on to study further find themselves on the right course at the right university. We also aim to help parents to support their sons and daughters through the process.

We, therefore, have a team of trained and dedicated Tutors to help guide students through the online application process, selecting the correct degree course, writing an impressive personal statement and mock interviews where appropriate.

In addition, we arrange visits to university, and offer parents talks about student finance. Students are encouraged to research a range of institutions and attend a variety of open days. We also organise visits to Higher Education fairs and Higher Education Preparation days so that our students can access the latest information and make fully informed choices about their options. Parents are invited to attend information evenings giving advice about the role that they too can play in supporting their child.

Employment and Apprenticeships

For those students not wishing to go on to university, we aim to provide career guidance that ensures that they too have a range of options from which to choose. We have close links with the career service and we run apprenticeship and employability workshops along with mock interviews and CV writing sessions in order to give our students the best opportunities to impress future employers.

Our team of Tutors support and guide all of our students through a series of one day events, group seminars and one-to-one meetings throughout the year. Our study area includes a Higher Education and Careers library where students can research courses and jobs and members of the Sixth Form team are always happy to advise and discuss post-Sixth Form options.

Overall, we are extremely proud of the paths that our students take and always pleased that we have played a part in helping them to achieve their goals and ambitions.
